The William Way LGBT Community Center to Host the 2009 Transgender Day Of Remembrance and Community Forum
The William Way LGBT Community Center is set to host a community forum and Philadelphia’s memorial in remembrance of those lives that have been lost due to hate based violence against Transgender people.
The community forum “Civil Rights Versus Human Rights: Does Marriage Equality Equate to Equality For All” will be held on Wednesday, November 18 at 7 pm. This panel discussion features: Charlene Arcila, a founder of the Trans-Health Conference and a trans-consultant for the Pennsylvania Statewide Case Management Project for the AIDS Activities Coordinating Office, Sarah Blazucki, the editor of Philadelphia Gay News, an award-winning LGBT-focused weekly serving the greater Philadelphia area, Gloria Casarez, LGBT liaison to Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, and Joe Ippolito, a doctor of psychology and a licensed clinical social worker who works closely with the transgender community as a therapist, advocate and researcher. The discussion will be moderated by Dionne Stallworth, a longtime advocate and activist concerning issues of mental health, homelessness, people of color, and equality for all LGBTIQ people.
The community forum is free and open to the public. Substantial time will be given at the end for audience questions and participation.
On Friday, November 20 at 7 pm, the Center will host a memorial service and reception in remembrance of all those who have been killed due to hate based violence against transgender people. This event is also free and open to the public.
