PTHC This Week!

The Philadelphia Trans Health Conference is next week! We are excited to present the first ever People of Color Track this year.

Last year we asked what our community needed. This year would like to mark some of those items off as accomplished, chip away at others and add new ones to the list.

Below you will find the final list of workshops presented this year with the track as well as other general workshops presented by people of color. Please continue to spread the word as we depend on your attendance and participation to make this a successful event.

TMAN travels cross country

As you may know, we attended the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta, GA last year.  We turned the conference upside down with our presence!  We had a great time together representing TMAN.  We hope to attend one major conference, in addition to our own, every year.
This year we plan to attend the Gender Odyssey Conference in Seattle, WA from September 5, 2009 to September 7, 2009 (Memorial Day Weekend).  We must act fast to plan this monumental occasion.  Scholarships are now available to attend the conference at a very low cost of $25.00 (this will cover costs for meals, workshops and some events).  These scholarships are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.  The scholarship forms are attached.  Please complete and email back ASAP if you are interested in going with us.
As of right now, we will most likely be flying out there.  If enough of us plan to attend we may be able to find some good group rates.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact Lonnie for more details.  By these events outside of our weekly rap groups, we can only strengthen our bond.  So don’t miss out on your chance to join in on the fun and do things that no other group around is doing.
EMAIL the completed application back to the email address provided on the form.

TMAN PRISONER SURVEY

Announcement: FTM participants sought for TIP’s survey on the experiences of trans and gender variants people incarcerated in Pennsylvania’s prison systems.

The Trans-health Information Project (TIP) has been surveying trans and gender variant individuals currently incarcerated or recently released from PA’s prison system
to find out how our communities are being treated in prison and what steps need to be taken to guarantee people’s health and safety while they’re locked up and when
they come home. The survey is anonymous and any testimonials incuded in the final report will not be associated with their contributors.

Who is eligible: People who live as/identify with being male though they may have been assigned female at birth (including FTM, stud, transman, butch, AG, boi, transsexual,
transgender, intersex, male-to-male, etc.) and who are currently incarcerated or recently released (in the past 3 years) from prison. This includes if you were jailed but not charged with an offense.

Compensation: Participants will receive $10 for completing and returing the survey to TIP (if you are sending the survey from prison, you will receive $12 on your book).

If you identify on the FTM spectrum and have experienced incarceration in the state of PA, this is an opportunity to contribute your knowledge to the first report being done on the experiences of trans and gender variant (T/GV) people incarcerated in PA. We want to hear your opinion on what’s happening to T/GV people in the prison system and what you would like to see happen to improve the situation for T/GV prisoners. You’ll be paid $10 for your time and effort.

If you have FTM friends who are incarcerated, this is an opportunity for them to share their experiences and recommendations and make $12.
